Question about Ultrabay (Thinkpad)

I just discovered this:
http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILib...0B45CBB39F45EB5B2B986E

It allows for a second hard drive to be added in place of the optical drive. I was curious if this would work on my R50e.

It says compatable with:
ThinkPad R50, R50p, R51, R52, T40, T41, T41p, T42, T42p, T43, T43p , X40(1), X41(1), and X41 Tablet(2), Series notebooks and optional docking solutions.

According to this link
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/...con20_ultrabayslim.png
it says the R series is Enhanced. However Lenovo says it will work will the four R notebooks. I was wondering if it'll fit in mine?

Not that it matters but I am considering this for backups instead of plugging in my enternal 2.5" drive, so it would be convenient.

Thanks for any help. 🙂

It really depends on the mechanical form factor, i.e., dimensions and connectors. I have the SATA Ultrabay which works with my SATA Optical on the T60. Connectivity must also match, i.e., SATA to SATA or PATA to PATA. The thickness of both is just about 5/16th of an inch. Here are the pics:

I find the ultrabay very useful. The HDD just pops in an out - no screws involved. I use mine for digital imagery archiving when on the road.

Thank you very much for the detailed photos. 🙂

I might purchase this. Possibly even a new battery, but that is $159. Eek. I'm still considering just buying the new S10, but I can't seem to separate from my beloved Thinkpad. 🙁

Thanks again!
