The partying there isn't nearly as crazy as it used to be and when it is going on, its limited pretty much to Del Playa. Their Engineering program is actually pretty good. They've won a few Nobel prizes in past years, and I believe the Chancellor even tought a few engineering classes himself.

Out of curiosity, what is it that you're looking for? Lots of partying or less of it?

UCSB>UCI

They've won Nobels. Plus it's VERY pretty. On the beach. How can you beat that?!

Even if there is a lot of partying, it's not like they have mandatory attendance. You can go to parties as much as you'd like.

Or is the question really about how much there is in the dorms?

The party scene isn't any worse than any other college's party scene. Which college doesn't have parties every weekend? The only big event that happens around UCSB is the week of Halloween. If you want to find parties then you can find parties, but if you don't want to party, it's not like there are parties around each and every corner.

National Rankings

UCI > UCSB

However as a current UCI undergrad, if you want any semblance of a party life outside of the greek community, its not exactly the best place in the world.

Our engineering is quite good though from what I hear though (I'm a Microbiology major myself so I have no idea)

i thought UCI and UCSB are ranked fairly similar. both are 45th in rankings from US news and reports

come to cal poly man, we got beaches and horses and crap!

i was considering uci and ucsb too, only if i didnt get into poly for engineering. i woulda chose ucsb though. a lot of my friends go there and they love it, so i'd recommend it.

I don't think BYU has parties very often.
