Question about Turbo Boost

Hi there, friends.

I'm thinking on buying the FX-6300 but I will not have money for a decent motherboard. I have a really low budget of 260 euro for motherboard, cpu, ram and hdd. Now the questions is: I've heard that the ASROCK 960GM-VGS3 FX is not recommandated for overclocking, being that the VRM or something is bad. But is the Turbo Boost considered an overclocking ? Will the FX-6300 work at 4.1 ghz on that motherboard ? On the website it shows that is supported, being that it can provide the amount of voltage the cpu needs. So on paper, everything should work. But will it ? I have a decent cooling in my computer case, and a stable PSU 80+ 500W wich shouldn't be a problem. The actual temperature on my CPU doesn't get over 50 degrees C in load, considered the ambient temperature is kinda high. So the motherboard will be pretty cooled.

So on the short side: will the FX-6300 work at the turboboost of 4100 mhz on the ASROCK 960GM-VGS3 FX ?

Turboboost is part of the CPUs stock spec and not considered overclocking. Unless you modify turbomodes ofcourse.

If you mean leaving it at the defaults (no overclocking, or messing with turbo boost cores or parameters), then it should be fine.

i.e. The turbo boost only runs at the 4.1GHz when ONLY some of the cores are in use, I can't remember the exact number, but it is probably 2 or 3 out of the 6 cores.

BUT if you mean (via messing with the default settings) can you run ALL 6 cores at the turbo boost setting (4.1GHz), then that WOULD increase the power consumption of the cpu by a fair bit, so if the motherboard can only supply the TDP (95W ?, if I remember correctly), you may well get into difficulties.

Having in mind that i am a user of a FX 6300 i can state that by using a max clock of ,for example 3900 Mhz ,with Turbo Off and CnQ On ,you will have more performance than running with a 4,1Ghz Turbo clock or even higher 4,3Ghz.If the board is smart and allows you do simply put some 200-300Mhz clocks in the turbo and nominal clock values you will have an easy overclock.

The best power efficiency is obtained using the default approach with the Turbo core related settings.While overclocking properly the power consumption may go higher.

When Turbo is used the clocks are bouncing up and down,switching fast between the cores ,never really reaching the full potential of the CPU to save some power.

To overclock you need a board with a good VRM ,you may reach a 50 W more power usage under overclocking.

The 4,1Ghz is rarely hit and most cores reaching it i ve seen was 4 i think
