question about triple play

do you guys know if triple play is limited to the provision of tv,telephony and broadband to a single point(set-top) or is it the general provision of the 3 services to a regular TV, telephone and through cable/adsl by a single company

nope, it is not a sports question

it is this concept of bundling of services by a provider

i was wondering if the definition wa a loose one or a tight one which would mean that the three services were all ip services

yes... i have triple play and it's all connected to my cable modem. i have VoIP. i don't like it, because when my modem goes out, so does my phone, but that's what is offered.

hey tami, if your phone, net and tv were being provided via different mediums but by the same oerator, would that still be classified as triple play?

Interesting. Some cable providers build in a battery backup to the cable modems that also provide voice services yours obviously does not. Wouldn't be that expensive to buy a small UPS and hook the cable modem into it though. They have such a low power draw that it should last an hour or so.

From what I've seen triple play doesn't necessarily all have to be over the same medium eg. IP. Since cable operators can bring TV to your home via MSO networks (i think that's the name) and then IP for phone & interwebs.

You can also include quad-druple play if they have a mobile phone offering which again CDMA/GSM is fine.

thanks for the reply

so it does not have to be fixed mobile convergence to be quadruple play

but an operator offering both a land line connection and a mobile connection alongside tv and web access under the same price plan will be classified as quadruple play
