I just recently built my first PC and now I need to transfer a few GBs of data over from my old Dell. The Dell has a 40GB hard drive connected with an IDE cable. The hard drive in my new PC has an 80GB hard drive connected with an SATA cable. My question is, do I need to mess around with jumper settings at all? I have two IDE inputs on the mobo in my new PC. One of those inputs is taken up by my CD-R/RW drive, but the other one is wide open because my hard drive uses an SATA input instead. So can I just leave the jumper settings for everything alone, and just hook my old hard drive up to the open IDE input on my new mobo? Will the old hard drive automatically be detected and installed when I boot up? Keep in mind that I have never done anything like this before.
