Question about transferring files from one 360 to a newer 360

I've got a couple of year old 360. Originally it came with the 20gb hard drive which i upgraded to 120gb. I transferred all of the files using the microsoft set that came with the 120gb hard drive.

I've got one of the MW2 console's reserved with the 250gb hard drive. Would I have to do a license transfer going from the 120gb to 250gb hard drive since the xbox unit itself will be different? Or will I just be able to use the cable and cd set from microsoft to transfer everything again?

I think the stuff from XBL is tied to your console, not your HDD. So unless you're gonna put that 250GB (btw. gimme! 😛) in your old Xbox, you need to do a license transfer. I think you're entitled to one every year? Never did it myself, but I think all you need to do is reset your licenses on the Xbox Web site and just re-download everything on your new HDD and it will be linked to it then. Though I'd wait for someone else to give you more details, as I have never done that (my Falcon Elite is going strong! I think I jinxed it now 🙁).

EDIT: So I guess the OP can transfer everything using the transfer tool and reset the licenses on the Web site (so two steps) and he's good to go?

You should be able to use the cable again.

But you'll also want to perform the license migration so you can use your content offline. If you don't perform the license migration you will have to be signed in to XBL to use any of the content purchased from the Marketplace (like XBLA games).

The answer is both. Use the cable and CD, then perform the license migration.

Thats what i was thinking for the XBL stuff....the game saves (some of which won't go on a microsoft memory card) can only be transferred with the cable...hmmm
