Question about tire size and rim size. Will the new tire fit on the same size rim?

Just picked up some 14" rims with 185/70/R14 size tires already on them. I didn't realize at the time these were different than the winter tires I have picked up at a size of 185/65/R14.

Does it matter that the two tire sizes are different for the 14" rims? Also the rims are to be used during the winter months only and they currently have some rust on them. Will this matter when replacing the current tire with the 185/65 size tire?

as long as the rust doesn't impair the structure of the wheel and isn't on the surface that seals the bead, it'll be fine.

14's are 14's. as long as there's not a big width difference (in this case, there's none), your tires will fit fine. even if you used the tires that are on them, you're talking about a 1cm different in sidewall height (2cm difference in overall tire diameter). probably not going to hurt anything, but it would be safest to run the factory size listed in the door jamb.
