Question about Time Warner Cable/RoadRunner and placement of router/cable modem

NFS4

No Lifer
OK, I we have Time-Warner/Road Runner service in our house. Our cable modem and router is upstairs (three rooms up stairs, two connected hard-wire to the router, one connected wireless). I'm downstairs connected wirelessly.

I just got a Linksys WRTP54G Vonage router for work use and I need to be able to plug a phone into the router. Obviously, I can't do that if I'm downstairs and the router is upstairs.

So my questions is, does it matter what cable jack the cable modem is plugged to in a house or will it still receive internet connectivity no matter what cable jack it is plugged to in the house?

B/C if I can move the router downstairs to my room, I'll just get two wireless adapters for the computers upstairs.

Thanks in advance for any help...

It should work on any cable run. They are all spliced off of the same thing in the box outside or wherever it is. No filters or anything needed.

I wouldn't say should work, might work is better. It depends on how they have it wired. DC Taps and spliters can raise hell with stable connections. But you can try it. 🙂
