Question about Thunderbird.

My isp, Fairpoint, requires smtp authentication for outgoing mail if I am not connecting via a Fairpoint high speed connection, as I do when I am on the road.

In Outlook Express, Windows Mail, Outlook, etc there is a box to check for this and then you can either use the same login for as POP, or put in a different one.

Thunderbird v. 17, the latest version, doesn't have that option, though it does have a line for "username".

I see numerous instances on the web saying to check the box marked "use name and password" but there is no box for this in the latest version of Thunderbird.

Anyone know how to make it do this, or can point me to right place to ask this question?

Account Settings > Ooutgoing Server (SMTP) > select the server you want, click edit > try different combinations for "Security and Authentication." Probably Connection security: SSL/TLS, Auth Method: Normal Password. There isn't a "use the same settings as outgoing server box in T-bird, AFAIK.

For some reason Mozilla puts "Sever Settings" at the top, but really only means incoming server settings. Outgoing server settings at the bottom of the list, which is fine once you get used to it, but a little backwards of the way everyone else does it.

Yeah, I have tried all the possible combinations. I just read where someone said to completely delete the outgoing server and create a new one and that might work. I will try that.
