What's the best way to clean the core when re-attaching/re-applying the HSF with thermal compound? I've heard that rubbing alcohol works, is this correct?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
Correct, rubbing alcohol works. I've also read that fingernail polish remover works good, haven't tried it though.
