You can install them on any VIA chipset board,I actually have them installed on my Epox 8KHA+(VIA KT266a).

ok here's another Q on a related theme: is it worth it?

I never installed any when I went over to winXP, though i was told XP coimes with/installs itself 4.38a or something. I dont have any probs atm, though anything that might reduce ping on isdn is always welcome :)

Well the ones in WinXP are well old,I`ve updated my VIA 4 in 1 drivers with WinXP since 4.33 series so going back quite abit,as to should you install them? It`s wise to have the latest drivers especially if you`ve a pretty new VIA chipset board,by default I notice only the AGP driver and INF files get updated on install of 4 in 1 drivers(now called Hyperion) with WinXP.

One more point, to update the VIA IDE Bus Master driver in WinXP,go to Device Manager select properties for VIA Bus Master IDE controller(right click on mouse) ,then update driver,it will search for them and install the lastest version from system32 folder(this is after you`ve installed the latest 4 in 1 drivers and rebooted),you`ll have to reboot after again,it`s optional if you want to update them or not.

thanks for the info :)

last Q: bearing in mind I'm not actually having any problems now, do you think it's reasonably likely I might get some new ones and how easy/hard is it to go back without a full XP reinstall. I know the fist part is a bit of a "how the feck do i know" but hopefully second bit is fairly well known...

BTW I'm using a KT266a board, with a new xp2400+ sitting in it :)

Well I have installed them in everything from the KT133 to the KT400, You do get the most performance in the KT400's but I even saw a jump in the KT133, The performance was more in disk speed than 3D or memory speed in the A7V133 but a improvement, I would like to see the KT400 face off with the nforce2 with this driver, Now that would be fun

Use WinXP System Restore to roll back your system in case of trouble. Just make a restore point before installing any driver/app, if there is a problem you can restore your system to where it was before.

And there`s always the driver rollback option as well.

For what it`s worth ,I`ve never had any VIA 4 in 1 driver problems with WinXP.

Since like every XP tweak site has it, I turned off system restore... Guess I could turn it back on, make a restore point & turn it off before upgrading... Dunno how though, turning off restore was probably XP tweak I started with. Guess I'll find it on tweakxp.com or somewhere, cheers.

Nope, just install them once downloaded ,infact even when a newer 4in1 version comes out,I just install them direct and reboot, it`s a straight forward install setup.

OK so i installed and minor boost to 3dmark, not that i but much stock in that but anyway. But later, a more knowledgeable friend says actually, should remove graphics drivers, restart, install 4in1's, restart and then install graphics drivers again. this normal? Also is it worth doing that VIA IDE Bus Master driver update ?

You don`t need to do all that, once they are installed it`s installed period,to check you`ve the AGP driver installed go to Device Manager, then System Devices, look for VIA cpu to AGP controller select properties,go to the driver part and see if it`s dated 02/10/2002 ,driver version is 5103440.

As to the VIA IDE driver,it`s up to you if you want to install it, which will update the old one, once installed it should be dated 18/10/2001 in the driver section.

Yes ,you can install the VIA 4 in 1 drivers since it`s a VIA chipset ;).

I think a lot of people are installing the new drivers and running 3DMark and if they get little or no gain they are not to happy with it, Some have said they went back to the old drivers, I have found on most KT133 and KT266's the new drivers gave very little 3DMark gain but some of them gave a good performance jump in the disk speed and a small jump in memory speed, Their is more to it than just 3DMark, I will take any performance I can get,

New VIA drivers (4in1) do more then just performance, in most cases they any fix bugs they find, improve stability, and on newer chipsets might give improved performance. So in the end it`s up to you if you want to install them or not,but VIA don`t bring out updated drivers for nothing.

FYI, I was on 1.443, installed 1.445 (Hyperion) version couple nights ago. Checked the IDE Driver and it upgraded automagically on XP Pro, trying to update it again said it was already at the latest / best version.

Also, this is on a KT133a chipset and so far no problems that I've seen. In case anyone else was curious. It didn't fix the problem with my Cendyne 40x burner (As I expected-it's the burner not the other parts) but had to try it just in case.

Remember there`s not always a newer version of the VIA IDE driver in the latest 4in1 pack ,it all depends on what version you`ve installed previously, since yours was 4.43 which is fairly new,so probably only the AGP driver is newer in the latest 4.45 pack for you.

Further point to my last post, the latest 4.45 drivers include the following,

IDE Filter driver 1.20a
IRQ 1.3a (for Win98 only)
AGP 4.40
Inf driver

Link to above info
