Please pardon my ignorance of the weird ways of our southern neighbours.
What is the date at which the presidential campaign officially begin? In Canada, federal electoral campaigns get a definite (as in predetermined by the Chief Electoral Officer) and reasonable length, generally about 8-10 weeks but no less than 36 days and electoral spending and advertising is allowed only during this time. It seems that McCain is already campaigning, advertising and spending funds that should count towards his spending limit (is there one in the US?). Isn't there a date on which a candidate can officially start campaigning and spending begins to count for the presidential race?
