each season is not a consecutive day following the last season, just a random day some time after the last season's day, so you can say this season started with him sleeping, like any other regular day... but now since everything is in chaos, he wont sleep until he gets it all done.
i do enjoy the idea that everything is solved in the matter of a single day though. but hey, makes good drama
btw, i love the show, im not bashing it just being a realist

On a more serious question was it ever reveal who nina meyers worked for in first season(she was speaking in german to someone)?

Palmer gets infected at the end of season 2 but season 3 never answer what happened. When is that explained?
