Question about the "screen door effect"

I while back I ordered a Dell 2007wfp when it was brand new. I got it knowing about the chance of banding and when it was clear the banding was putrid I sent it back, but after a week of playing around with the monitor.

The banding was bad, but I was almost willing to live with it if it wasn't for the "screen door effect" that it had. Exactly as it sounds, it looks like the desktop (web pages, etc) is being viewed through a screen... if you shake your head back and fourth fast it disappears, just like with screens too ;)

I was basically wondering if this is a fixable problem and why it happens. Is this a problem with the glorious S-IPS monitors? A problem with the anti-glare coating? Just my eyes? (My 15" FP monitor has no such effect). I really want to attempt the panel lottery again but if it's going to be there no matter what...

For what it's worth, I have a 20" NEC LXD2070NX(it's S-IPS) and I do not see any such effect.

Is there a link for detailed explanation? I am not quite understanding what this 'screen door effect' is.

You are seeing the space between pixels.

I don't know anything about the monitor you are talking about, but typically the biggest cause of screen door is sitting too close to the monitor or having the resolution too high.

There is a variation between display devices of space between pixels, but I have no idea what the technical name for it is, or where you would find it on a spec sheet.

Hmm, I sort of came to that conclusion with a little research as well, but I've read such limited reports of it being noticeable I'm wondering if it was merely a flaw in that particular monitor I received. Now to find a decent deal :)

I think he is talking about something like watching a soccer game from behind the soccer net.

I read, recently, that the optimum distance from a monitor is around 1 meter. At that distance you won't see a grille.
