Question about the 'Resident Evil' movies

I'm just starting to watch the fifth one. I realise that I shouldn't take them very seriously (some might say that this is a gross understatement), but one large point bugs me: Umbrella Corporation presumably made a profit once upon a time. Now that everyone else is dead, why are they still doing what they're doing and what resources do they have to do it with (or pay/feed their people), etc?

There are five of them now? D:

I don't see why they would stop making a profit just because a few people died. Drug companies do it all the time.

End of the world, humungous well organized and well armed group that will feed and clothe me... Where do I sign up?

They gotta be more careful making these... I seem to recall two major stunt injuries that made the news in the past two movies.

Exactly. The private army and support staff both have good reason to remain with Umbrella instead of trying to survive the monster hordes on their own. Your salary is now food and not becoming food.

Also, many of them might be conditioned to obey with training, drugs and/or false memories.

Finally, it's an accepted trope that the cannon fodder for an evil organization will line up to be mowed down. It's either the conditioning or just being careful to hire mooks for the front lines.

It became a self-sustaining feudal system. And profit doesn't have to be money. All mega evil corporations (just like real, more morally grey ones) need is to spread and grow... kind of like a virus. You can reap the rewards at the top once you rule the world.

Unless pesky sentient AIs and your own creations get in the way.

Watched them all except one I think. The movies don't really follow the story line. I mean, they kinda do, but not really. If you ever played RE 2 or RE for Game Cube (Which was awesome!) you'll know. The characters for the most part are there.
