ok i am in the process of buying a lappy for myself.

i came across this lappy Here

It has a pentium M chip with only 1mb on the L2cache.

is that going to affect performance any?

So what i am asking really is, is there a difference between a 1.6 pentium M 1mb L2cache vs a 1.6pentium M 2mb L2 cache chip? would it be noticeable in normal stuff?

the difference is the cores. the dorthan is a newer revision which has the 2meg cache, is 90nm, and has improved battery life and performance.

I believe the performance is roughly equal. However, as stated the Donthan has slightly better battery life.

I'd get the Dothan if possible, but Banias/"bananas" should also be fine for what you would seem to be using it for.

thx alot guys. the notebook i have linked up there doesnt offer the dothan core i believe. really sucks because i am really interested in it. if i could see it in person and see the screen then i prolly would get it right away even if it doesnt have a dothan core. seems to be a good alternative to the Dell700m

thx again

The Dothan will be slightly better, but I doubt it will be worth missing out on an otherwise fitting notebook.

In fact, since everybody wants the Dothan (to unreasonable degrees) you probabably have a bigger price advantage than technical disadvantage.
