Question about the old Batman shows

I'm kind of having a little debate here about the old Batman shows... a friend of mine is saying that the show is totally serious and its just so cheesy because of how old it and the lack of technology they had etc.. but I think it was made to be stupid like that on purpose... what do you guys think?

It was pulled out of the comic books. The creators tried to make as close of a transition from the comics to the screen as they could.

It was made to look strange. Although some of that strangeness does stem from when the show was made. It was meant to be light-hearted fun for both kids and young adults.

The scene in the movie with Batman running around trying to find some place to throw away a bomb was inspired -- even the water had a flock of cute little ducks. The show was absolutely not supposed to be serious at the time.

The original was supposed to be just like the comic, as tragic as it ended up. It was meant to be serious. Did you see the interview with Adam West when they made the motion picture?? He was FURIOUS that they didn't consider him for the part, it was soooo funny. He was all "I am the original batman, the only batman,..."

I've heard that Batman was a campy, silly comic book until Frank Miller's "Dark Knight Return's" in the mid-1980's. That's why the TV show was so goofy, and the movie so serious.

Sort of true, but the comic book was more serious than the TV show -- just old-fashioned. Miller's Dark Knight was grim and dark and a shot of new blood into the arm of "hero comics" that had gotten pretty old and tired at DC.

As already said it was supposed to be a live action comic book. The movie (which, iirc, was really just an extended episode, as it aired on tv instead of at theaters) was one of the most tragic things I have seen. You haven't lived until you have seen batman on the bottom of the ladder of the helicopter. He's battling this shark, in mid air mind you, that is tangled in the ladder. It is truely one of the saddest things I have ever seen. I felt so sorry for West. He can't beat the shark (hitting this sorry ass plastic doll with his fists) so Robin comes down from the cockpit with a can of shark repellant and the shark falls of the ladder, then explodes.

Comedy Gold.

they were OBVIOUSLY goofing when they made it. Their target audience was like 10 and under. To even question whether they were serious or not is really really lame. It's so obvious.

People even think that Evil Dead 2 was "serious" and that it is unintentionally funny. They have got to be out of their minds.
