USA Story timelining the MRAP's deployment [or lack therof

Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committeesays armor too heavy to MRAP's

Is their strategy just to load the thing up with the thickest hulls period? @ 40kLB Payload Capacity it is a beast. Anyone know anything about what they are doing to modify these things?

Couldn't one design reduandant V hulls or something of the sort without exponentially increasing the armor or is that all there is to it?

From your first link:

MRAP vehicles are usually built with a "V" shaped hull that assists deflection of a mine or IED blast away from the vehicle?s interior keeping the passengers safe and the vehicle intact.

Your second link is screwed up, you have a ] before the http

2 guys I play volleyball with were in a truck that got EFP'd and are in Germany. Bad news. I'll leave it at that, since the enemy is watching!

I know...the point is that the EFP's can still perforate the hull.(terminology?) I'm guessing that this new armor does much to prevent such a thing, but couldn't a solution be reached besides just packing in the layers an overweighign them?

That sucks man:( I'm guessing that they were in an MRAP :(

I hope they are okay, and it is really really bad, I hope they can get though with it and/ or don't suffer too much:(

One of those or a truck very similar with a V-shaped based shape just got blown up with 6 Canadians(Afghanistan) in it last week: all dead. Not sure what kind of explosives they said were used. So the 'safety' they claim it has is pretty overblown/hyped. Maybe it's better than some things, but it isn't unstoppable.
