Sorry to see your topic drenched in P&N sewage, Triumph. I'm curious about this scene as well. Disturbing as fvck when I first saw it and could not sleep for nights afterwards.

I'd certainly have a morbid curiousity to see people in a coma who look like that guy.
The guy in question
Linkage not worky. I think this one is better:

In any case, sure enough a coma patient can live on IV feed, but to elaborate my understanding of Sloth-guy:
- According to the doctor who checked him, his brain was "mush" and he'll die if we even "so much as shine a flashlight in his eyes" -- any idea why?
- body severely emaciated -- symptomatic of deliberate starvation, I guess we can continue to pump in glucose, water but cut off the protein (not completely, I guess to prevent death) to cause muscle atrophy/loss to turn him into a pile of skin & bones
- pale skin (actually he looks whiter in the movie than the link above shows) with signs of redness and breakouts -- sunlight deprivation, bedsores (apparently controlled by constant administering of antibiotics)
Btw, some trivia: The Sloth-guy was played by an actual actor who was thin enough for the role. :Q
