I realize that having lower prices on older stuff and higher prices on flavor of the month tracks means the market controls the prices, but doesn't having the $0.99 set price kind of balance that out anyways since the 'low' price of the current tracks is offset by the same 'high' price for the old tracks?

Anyone know about this or have any numbers?

But the idea is that people will want to buy lots of more expensive new tracks and only a few older tracks, or so the big music industry hopes.

The idea is to increase RIAA member income by massive price increases on new tracks and smaller price drops on some old tracks.

They wouldn't be pushing for this if it was going to average out the same to consumers, they want even more of your money for letting Apple do all of the work for them.

I hate it when grammar Nazis forget to use the caps lock key.
