Question about the highpoint raid controller on KT7A-Raid boards

Hi guys. I was wondering - if I currently have a Promise fasttrak RAID controller card with a striped array of 2 drives running off of it, if I upgrade my motherboard to the Abit KT7A-Raid, will I be able to simply move my two harddrives over and have the Highpoint raid controller on the motherboard take over, or will I have to redefine the array? ie. are the striped raid arrays compatible with each other? (and more importantly can I save my info on the drive!)

Thanks guys!

I did the same you are thinking to do. First, after you move the drives, you have to redefine the RAID from the HPT menu, which erases the information on your previous Promise RAID strip. Then you have to go through fdisk and create there your new partition. The last step is to format your new raid. Knowing that, you should backup your data before changing the hardware. For best performance define your HPT RAID with 16K sectors, and format your RAID using the command format X: /z:32
By the way, this motherboard works really fine.
Good luck

Thanks for the info dude. That kind of sucks...I don't really have the capacity to worry about backing my stuff up, unfortunately (yes I'll die if one of my drives crashes :) ). Hmm...I guess I could always go with the non-raid KT7A and then keep using my Promise controller card. Do you notice any speed difference between the RAID setup on the KT7A and the external Promise card?
