So initially Nvidia will only release the 6600 and 6600GT in PCI express form. The AGP will come out months later.

My question is
1) Do we need the newer MB that has the PCI express slots to use these cards ??
2) Or will the 6600GT will fit in the regular PCI slots. But maybe with less performance.

Sorry if this is a nOOb question.

You need a PCI-E X16 slot to use the PCI-E version. And an AGP slot to use the AGP version. Night and day differences :)

So then why is Nvidia releasing the 6600GT pci version first ??
MOst people I know do not have the newer MB that has the PCI express(or am I wrong?)

Intel wants to move to PCIe quickly. I'd be surprised if there were AGP version of high end next gen cards.

Its seems to me like alot of people are excited about the 6600GT because of the price point and the ability to run Doom3 at 60FPS(so they say) but initially ATI will only release the PCI express first with the AGP version a couple of months down.....that kinda defeat the purpose.

Sorry for the nOOB question but I've been out of the loop for about 2 yrs and I'm trying to catch up.
I've been thinking that PCI express cards as in you can just plug it in your normal PCI slots....duh.
