Fiberoptics may change that, but electricity does not move @ light speed. In fact it is much slower.
i think intel roadmaps show intel up to like 8ghz in a couple years lol (or close to a couple...maybe more, maybe less, i dont remember exactly)...not "official" roadmaps maybe...but ive seen em somehwre on the net lol
if they can manage to figure out how to control light (ie, make it stop and go at will) then theres TONS of headroom left for faster cpu's
also quantum computers
anyways, the way we are going, smaller and smaller cpu's, i think maybe we'll have a few cpu "cores" on every "platform"
like imagine p4 cores that are ALOT smaller, but like 1 in each corner ...and then 4 of those "platforms" in a pc...mayb less at first, but more later on
then they all work collectively, not like you send one task to one corner processor and another to another....its like a raid0 array but with cpu's, ud send one operation, and it gets divided among the different corner processors (if that possible...)
..and now back to physics haha
