Question about the end of season #2 - The wire

So the wife and I were watching the last episode of The Wire last night and the final episode froze with about 1:22 left on the disc.

Nikki (sp?) was staring out of the fence into the water after not getting work. A song came on and there was a 4-5 minute montage wrapping up the season. Then the music stopped and he started walking away. There was a car next to him that I expected was either the FBI agent or someone sent to kill him.

Then the disc froze!!! I don't feel like waiting for a replacement bad disc from Netflix. So did anything happen, or did the credits just roll?

So far after 2 seasons I'd rate this show about a 8/10. Some of the characters are goofy, but there are some pretty hilarious lines once you get to know the characters.

"What do you want to bet that some cop in Philly is looking at a table with 13 heads right now?"

Phew, k.. thats what it seemed like. Since Vondopolous realized that he'd go to the cops after his uncles death and it was to late to stop that. Didn't fit in with The Greek's MO of "it's only business", and it would have been a vendetta kill.

That season sucked.

Yeah, I still liked it better then the first half of season 1. Character development in the first few episodes was retarded. The only idiot in season 2 was Ziggy.

I just finished season 4 after watching about 6 in a row on sunday. One of the best shows ever. I think S3 was my favorite though.

Good, I'm gonna wrap up a few other shows that we're watching and then move onto season 3 sometime next week.

I don't consider the 5th to be part of the series because it was so bad

Oh come on, it wasn't BAD, it just wasn't as good as the rest.

But yeah, season 3 was awesome.. I'd probably go in the same order as you: 3,1,2,4,5..

None of the seasons were bad. The show is basically a multi-season discourse about the modern city. How all the institutions are their core are basically the same, how the middle class was abandoned and destroyed, why reform doesn't work, why education is failing, and why the public never really hears about all of the big issues shown during the show. Many of the major plot lines, themes, and characters are based on real events and real people.

Great series all the way through. I do agree with the ranking mentioned above.

yep. I think it was just the FBI agents that drove by and looked at him, iirc. He does survive.

That was definitely the worst season. They pretty much abandon the entire Harbor story for the rest of the series. 3rd/4th are definitely my favorite. The rest of the series is really well tied-in.

Oh, and Sheeeeeeeeeeeiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeettt!

Well they touch on the harbour story a few times... The girl, the greek... they make appearances later. It was kind of a necessary interlude to show the supply of the drug trade.

I really enjoyed all of the seasons really. 5 wasn't quite as good as the others, but it was still very enjoyable.

I expected the harbor story to go away.

Each season is supposed to focus on something, it's no more appropriate to say that they abandoned the harbor after season 2 than to say the abandoned the school system prior to season 4 or the media prior to season 5. The show is about the city and where appropriate they used the individual aspects. And fwiw, they did have the guys from the harbor back at various times.

The first time I watches season 2, especially the first half, I thought it sucked but watching it subsequent times it is either my favorite or second. Frank Sobotka's character was awesome....you really had to feel for a guy who is trying to do the right thing for his family and union with the odds stacked against him.

I agree the 5th season was really dumb and went overboard. I hated the whole newspaper and media theme, and how the murders were faked. For a show trying to be really realistic that was a stupid plot line.

Yeah that's true. And that harbour guy's girlfriend had some nice tits too.

They stuck with the other settings far more than they did with the Harbor bit. Season 3 and 4 seemed pretty interchangable. the political season wasn't merely a focus, but an element that went along with the rest of the series.

Well, if you knew anything about the creators, you'd know they worked at the Baltimore Sun. They based many of these characters on real Baltimore figures whom they met while covering the homicide beat. (same creator of the show "Homicide.")

The faked stories...that's pretty much what happens sometimes. It was an indictment on the failing newspaper industry, and the misplaced priorities of the corporate owners.

It was a fantastic season.
