Question about the door on the Antec Super Lanboy case

I just took out the Antec Super Lanboy case that I just purchased to check it out. The front drive door seems really tough to open and it seems to be dragging on somewhere. It makes a rubbing noise when I go to open it. Is this common with this case or did I get a case with the door out of whack?

I have two different Antec case models with the door and haven't experienced this before. Then again, the drive doors on the other cases are plastic and not aluminum.

Mine did the same thing. I've only been using it ~2 weeks and it's already gotten a little better.

What fans do you have in there Tiamat?
How is the cfm/db compared to stock?

Mine is tight, but I like it that way. I think it was designed with mobile in mind (LAN Party???). It's good that it stays shut when toting around......

Hey Tiamat, your case looks cool! Did you know that you can replace the stock "push, now" label on the removeable drawer with your own cool logo? It slides off easily...just thought I'd let you know.....

heeh, thanks! Yeah, ive been too lazy to switch the label.

The front fan is an evercool Aluminum and runs at 5V. Pushes more cfm than the antec stock and is a little bit quieter.

This is an old picture however, for a couple months, i put the stock antec fan in front, and the evercool in back. Im about to swap in 2x YateLoon Low speed fans (read nexus).

With any of my setups, the evercool in back with antec in front both at 5-6V is the coolest and quietest with the TrueBlue 480 fans overpowering these fans in noise.

I have a slightly similar problem... I just bought one of these Lanboys as well, and I'm not putting my components in tonight, but I was attempting to take off the left side (clear window) and examine the interior of the case, but I found it extremely difficult to get off. After removing the thumbscrews, I tried prying the panel off the case, but was almost cutting my fingers when trying to grip it. I'm wayyyyy too tired to be messing with anything right now, and I seem to have misplaced my toolbox, so I'm going to bed, and will check it out tmrw.

Meanwhile, any helpful tips are much appreciated.

The first time openning the left panel is very tough. You have to grip the thing that looks like a padlock and fit into it, and yank hard in the back direction. It will go about 1". then you have to carefully sweep the door with your left hand out towards the front assuming your right hand is on the front of the case.

So, if you are looking through the case window, you yank the panel to your left about 2". Then you pull the left end of the panel towards you.

I'm not so much concerned with the tightness of the door latch, but I hate the way it drags when you open it and the noise that it makes. It just doesn't seem right to me. I think it should be a little tough to initially open, but then it should open smoothly once it's unlached and not drag like a warped door.

BTW.. I'm referring to the front drive cover door and not the side door with the plexi-glass. To remove that, just grab that piece of metal in the on the back half way up. I think that's what it's for, to give you leverage to pull on, because I haven't seen it on other Antec cases.

I will try this. I also thought the "padlock"-looking thing could be helpful to grip and pull from, but last night it seemed like it would snap off if I pulled too hard.... maybe I will get a cloth (as to not scratch the thing) and try prying it off with a flat head screwdriver

Antec designed the door this way because they figured you'd be toting it around alot with the included harness. A loose door like their other cases have would come open easily when moving. The tight door is intentionally designed for the SLB.

Yeah, I was thinking that to myself, that if I were carrying it around, I'd want a sturdy frame. I don't plan on doing that a lot (could change though... I've never really been to a LAN party, and I'm sure it's a great time). The reason I picked this case is cause I think it looks pretty slick, and is also pretty small... I didn't really want a full tower on my already-too-crowded desk.

BUT, the small size already looks like it's presenting a challenge. I was able to get the side doors off much easier than last night, but I just installed the PSU (Vantec Stealth 520W), and there are so many power connectors, I'm gonna have to do some major cable management so they aren't laying right on top of the motherboard.

Also the Vantec has 4 holes for screws on the back, but only 3 of them line up with the Lanboy's holes... the 2 bottom corners, and 1 closer to the middle of the top (above the AC plug connector). It seems pretty snug in there (not going to easily fall out), but is this normal? (my first build if it's not glaringly obvious). thanks

I'm not talking about the tightness of the latch. I prefer that tight. You can even adjust that by slightly bending the tab that latches. I'm talking about the bottom of the door dragging on the chrome piece that houses the USB ports and power button. It makes a scraping noise when I go to open and close the door when the door gets over the chrome piece. I'm noticing that it's already leaving scratches in the chrome piece where the door and chrome piece match up.

As for the power supply, I haven't installed on yet, so I don't know if it's normal that one of the holes doesn't line up. That seems strange to me though. Did you try flipping the power supply upside down? Sometimes you have to flip the power supply upside down to get it to work in certain cases.

Oh, I see, mine doesn't rub like that. Can you take a fine file and take off a little bit? It's not going to show on the bottom.....
