Question about the CPU speed being adjusted automaticallly in my AVERATEC laptop. (powernow! quantispeed or whatever)

hi,

i'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but i got an averatec xp-m 2000+ laptop, with that supposed quantispeed architecture and powernow! technology. it seems to not be doing the power adjustments correctly -- e.g. when its plugged in, it's still slowing the cpu speed down to like 1ghz, and then at times, when on battery only, it seems to not adjust the speed at all -- continually running at 1.53ghz. and another question -- it's supposed to be 1.66ghz, why is it always listed as 1.53 ghz?? I am confused, and somewhat new to all this. any help would be appreciated...!

thanks.

This would be an appropriate forum, but if you want to get a quicker response, you may want to bring this over to the CPU forum.

GO to your power options (right click battery or go to my comp > change a setting > performance and maintenance > power options). Under power schemes, choose 'Home/Office Desk'. This will make it so the clock speeds do not throttle back. Hope this helps!

thanks for the help! I knew that part of it ... but was wondering...is there a way for the speed To be lowered when unplugged, but not lowered when it's plugged in? i want to save power when on battery, but i want optimal power when plugged in (like my good ol' inspiron 8200 p4 speedstep did)....

or am i outta luck ? please lemme know ... thanks!
