Question about the Abit double reboot problem

I'm in the process of picking parts for my new computer...

So far I have an Antec P150 and OCZ platinum 2x1gb DDR2 RAM...

I plan on getting an E6750, I just have to pick a motherboard now.

One that caught my eye was the Abit IP-35e, for only 70 bucks AR it seems like a steal... I don't need lots of bells and whistles so it seems like it should be good enough.

However, I've seen that there's a well documented double reboot issue, that it POSTs twice when booting up... besides being annoying, is this a huge issue? Should I avoid the mobo becuase of it?

Thanks.

It probably would reduce the life of the HDD by a few months. That said, I always replace my HDD around the 4th or 5th year so a few less months shouldn't be a big problem for me.

Not that OCZ are problem RAMs, especially with this MB. You may need to find some 1.8V modules to boot into the BIOS so that you can manually input Vdimm and timing. I avoid OCZ stuffs like the plague.

Kingston DDR2 800 "N5 OEM" ValueRAM or Crucial Balistix would be my choice.

Yeah, after ordering it I saw that some people have problems with it... but, I've read that you can put one DIMM into the fourth slot to at least boot to the BIOS to change the memory voltage.

Ok, I think I'll chance it... thanks.

from my understanding, its a Intel P35 issue, not just Abit.

That being said, i honestly wouldn't worry about it. personally i always leave my PC on so i rarely have to see the double-POST.

and I vote for Crucial Ballistix (or Tracer). I have 2x1gb tracers in mine (found them cheaper than ballistix, it's the same chip it just has some stupid LED's on top that flash when the memory gets accessed. They are PC8500 chips that need 2.2v (or was it 2.1v) for its advertised speed.

Since the intel chips default to 333mhz (E6850 for me), the memory is fine being booted at 1.8v so i didn't run into an issue where i had to use 1.8v spec'd RAM.
