Question about the A7v-133c

Ive just ordered a new motherboard for my computer, my beloved old a7v classic went up in smoke. But I found a very cheap A7V-133c and have ordered a Duron 1100 to replace my duron 600 which also went up in smoke.

My question for you bright people out there - is: Will the A7V-133C run the duron 1100 out of the box, or will I have to upgrade the Bios first. Because I dont have an extra processor that actually works, so it would be kind of difficult for me to do the upgrade.

Hope that someone has the answer, cause if it cant, then I have to do some processor hunting before the mobo and cpu arrives 😎

Cheers

The A7V-133C should not have a problem running a 1.1Ghz Duron. The A7V133-C uses the via KT133a chipset, which supports 100/133mhz memory. I'm guessing that you may have PC100 memory from your A7V. You can use that on the A7V133-c, but if you want to move to Athlon or XP's, you will need to upgrade to PC133.

BTW, I have a friend who has A7V133 with a XP 1600+ processor running at 2000+ speed with no problems. So the A7V133 is a great board IMO (Mine has been running months with no fuss)

yeah i love these a7v boards from Asus, and i dont have the money to invest in a newer mobo with DDR ram just yet. I´ll keep my fingers crossed, and hope that the mobo will run the 1,1 Ghz duron out of the box 😎

How fast a processor will it be able to support with a BIOS upgrade? Is the XP 2200+ the limit, or will it go even further?

Once again, I do not see any problems running it with the 1.1Ghz duron. I do suggest getting the latest bios from asus (they released it yesterday). As far as highest speed processor, it should work with all processors from AMD all the way until they switch to 333mhz FSB which has not happen yet (maybe won't even happen)
