Question about the A+ test

If you know your general hardware, learn the standard IRQs and the default memory addresses for something I can't remember right now and you're pretty much set.

General memory for com + lpt ports.

The new test requires Essentials, which covers both hardware and software. You then choose between (602) IT Technician, (603) Remote Support Technician or (604) Depot Technician to finish the certification.

That's the one. I was thinking LPT and PS/2 but knew that wasn't quite right. Thanks 😉.

I took mine when it was hardware and software. No questions on general memory for com/lpt or IRQs. When i took it they were making the transition to the new exams so i had a choice of which one to take. I think some of the questions on the one i took where being considered for the new. It was just alot of silly questions like "If you are on your way to a clients house to do a memory upgrade and your car breaks down, what should you do? A. Call the client and tell him you will be late, B. Ask the client to reschedule...etc". I think the new exam is structured towards customer service aka soft skills type ?'s more than technical ones. Umm, I've been reading over the essentails section and nothing was ever said about IRQ or ports. Maybe that's in 220-602, or maybe they figured IRQs are so out of date(like dos) and dropped it from the 2006 test.

Yep. IRQ's are so unimportant now techs dont even need to know anything about em  😀

I've got 2 vouchers for the A+ test, JK0-301(Core) and JK0-302(OS) that I got through school about a year ago. They expire July 12 and I need to take the test before then. Has the test changed?

Is this essentials the A+ now? I'm guessing this means the comptia A+ 2003 book I got is out of date now?
