This may be a stupid question but I haven't played since 2007

Does Mann Co. supply crate key ever go on sale?
and if it did how much was the sale price and when does it normally go on sale?
or can you buy it bulk like 20 or 30 keys at a time to get a discount?

I found a manco suppply crate and it requires a tf2 key and I wanna open it!
 
I've never seen the keys go on sale and there isn't a bulk rate through steam. If you're interested in keys and do not wish to spend money on them then you can also trade items for them. If you look on the tf2 forum you will find going rates for items,hats and refined metal in relation to keys.
 
Keys are cheaper on the forums too. They're probably bought using stolen credit cards cause I've never seen them on sale or anything.
 
The crates are a joke in most cases. If you read the description each create has a different list of items you might get.

It is gambling for kids in my book.

As to key prices, about once per year (chrismas) they give a free key out to players. Otherwise, the price is fixed at the $2.50US each.
 
To be honest, you're probably not going to get much. I think 80-90% of crates contain weapons. But if you haven't played in a long time then chances are the weapons will be new for you.
 
decided to log in for a few hours last night after seeing this thread. Don't have any keys in my inventory and i've had the game since release.

probably better if the OP just wants the weapons to trade someone a single key for several of the newer standard weapons (the ones people generally just scrap).

unless the OP wants to try for some of those things that are not drop able.

That all being said, crates are not rare, you generally can not give them away. Drop rate is about double to that of standard items.
 
I also forgot to mention that you can buy weapons and hats in the store as well. The only thing that keys and crates can get you that you can't buy are unusual hats (hats that have special graphic effects like fireballs etc). However those are super-ultra rare so its practically like playing the lottery.
 
As others have mentioned, just trade with other players to get keys. You'll be surprised how willingly some people will give them up.

Or better yet, just find someone with the "Strange" weopon or item you want and trade for it. There are nutty people out there willing to trade strange weapons for a Persian Persuader...etc.
 
I opened 4 crates and found only hats and 1 strange saw? for medic.
Worst $10 I've ever spent haha, I have learned my lesson

Strange weapons keep track of kills or other stats related to the item and give a "level name" to it.
