Is the battery supposed to be slighly loose even when it's locked? And is the connection to the laptop at the back supposed to feel loose? It's not that big of a concern but I was just wondering if this is normal. Basically the plug can be moved from side to side and isn't tight like I would think.
 
My refurbed T40 came like that so I searched a bit on the web and heard other stories like that. I needed the laptop right then, so I held onto it. For the battery, I put a thin (really thin) strip of foam tape to keep it snug. I think the plug is somewhat flexible so that it can flex rather than snap right off.
 
yes it's normal, if you have the sanyo battery - with the sony it shouldn't be loose (or is it the other way around?)
