Question about swapping drives

Had an ailing T23, running Windows XP, so I bought a used T40 and popped the drive out of the T23, and popped it into the T40. It starts booting, begins loading Windows (with the splash screen), and then blue screens. One of the messages in the blue screen is "A change in hardware could have caused this".

Is the hardware between the T23 and T40 that much different than booting into Windows in even safe mode won't work? Or is there something wrong with the machine, and I should do something else (like reinstall windows or consider a new hard drive, or perhaps a broken lappy).

Ran a HDD I/O test via boot CD and it got fairly far into it.

those two have very little in common. different hardware, different drivers. reformat and reinstall xp then look online for the drivers

Windows is tied heavly to the motherboard. You can change out everything else in the system without problems. But when you change out the motehrboard you are stuck reinstalling windows. If it where a motherboard with the same chipset as the old you may be able to get around a reinstall.

The T23 and T40 have totally different chipsets on the mobo. That means they are different. Your question's premise is misleading - you are not swapping HDDs, you are swapping computers. That won't work. Reinstall - or try good moving software.
