Question about subscription

Ok, I realize that this is a dumb question, but I am going to ask it anyway. What is the benefit of being a subscriber? I have seen several threads that I cannot access as I need to be a subscriber, are there anything special about these threads? if you are a subscriber, can you choose to only allow other subscribers to view them? ok, so that was more then one dumb question, but thanks for hearing me out.

Oh, by the way, I can't thank you enough for these forums. Since I have joined I have spent waaaaaay more money then I should have(stupid hot deals forum 🙂 ), and I think I have actually gotten a weee bit more smarts when it comes to computers. I actually caught myself giving advice the other day!!! anyway, thanks again

The only stupid questions are the ones you don't ask.

Check this out to see about the benefits. There will be tons of people that will say that they love their subscriptions.

For the threads that you can't seem to access, change subscriber.anandtech.com to forums.anandtech.com That should get you set straight.

There are several benefits that subscribers enjoy. I'd say one of the more important ones for you would be the full-text search feature. It gives a search actual value.

Other things of note: Speed, no ad banners, high Private Message limit, Buddy List (a novelty), and not having to deal with changing a link from "subscribers" to "forums". 😉

lol, no don't worry, there are no subscribers only type information. the only benefits are functional (like speed, search, pms). data is still the same.

I have a subscription question also, can you tell if another member is a subscriber? I think this would be usefull for at least the FS/T forum as it's one more 'hoop' that the poster went thru to verify their identity.

You can't tell if anyone is a subscriber. Many will tell you that they are, but there isn't a list that you can verify it. It's done that way so nobody gets "special treatment" because they're a subscriber.

i bought the 3 month subscription, it is going to run out in 11 days
do i just go to the same screen and pay the same way?
or is there some other way to "re-new" my subscription?

If they did paypal, the subscriptions would have to be set up by hand for every one. that would be a total pain, so I do not believe that is actually going to happen 🙂

Okay, don't forget you said that 🙂

I've been looking through the help and faq and so forth so forgive me if this information seems obvious, but I can't find the answers clearly...

I understand that there is a pm limit, but how is it counted? Is it annually? Or how many in use at once? I can't afford to subscribe at this time, and I would like to understand better how to manage. Thanks for any clarification!

😕

The PM limit is 100 messages in your box. You could send 1,000,000 messages, but as long as you had 99 actually in your box, then you'd be ok. Does that answer your question clearly?

I just became a subscriber today and I like it alot better allready, much faster you can do a search in half the time, no more PMs overflowing. I just did the 3 month plan to see how I like it but after that It will be full year.

Just signed up today for the 3 month plan, wanted to say the speed difference is amazing. 🙂 Im very happy.

Not really. There are automated payments systems for paypal that will give access to forums/websites upon payment, I've used them before.
