I plan of software stripping my drives and was wondering what kind of problems I could run into.

If I software stripe is that it? I can only use it on 2000 (I am assuming that much), but what happens after I format my system? Will all my information be lost or will 2000 be smart and recognize the drives as being software striped?

Massive problems. Software RAID is pushed by the evil empire and people swearing allegiance to the gospel according to Microsoft (MCSE program). I work as a server support rep, and I'll tell ya, NO other OS will put up with the software striping. You will end up hosing the system. If you want RAID, get a RAID card... simple as that. SW raid is a curse and I would not reccomend it on either a performance or reliability level.
