I love animals. I have had lots of pets and I have several right now. The difference between me and a cat owner is I actually take care of my animals. They are not left to roam the neighborhood being a nuisance to the neighbors with potential harm coming to them. I take my dog for a walk two times a day, once before work, and once when I get home. He is on a leash, like he is supposed to be. You see I actually care about him and if he sees a squirrel he might run after him and get hit by a car in the process. I used to have a Fox Squirrel as a pet and I care about the squirrels too.

So you simply wish genocide on all cats, because every cat owner is like-minded?

You argument is like a known racist saying he couldn't be because he has a 'black' friend.

Your younger self cleaning up the neighborhood was probably a dude that got his ass kicked in real life each day and needed to vent his anger on the helpless.

Well, in some places, the owners definitely should face some kind of penalty for allowing a dog to defecate on someone else's property (if the owner doesn't immediately pick it up).

Assholes let their dog shit in the hallway, right outside the door to my apartment.%}^#*%!!

In some places it is illegal to have a dog relieve themselves on anything but the swale/public easements...in many places it is illegal to not pick up after your dog.

A dog owner should always have bags on them when they are walking their dog.

Who said anything about cat genocide? I don't mind cats at all, as long as they don't roam free to damage my property. I take care of my neighbors' cats when they are away and both are nice kitties, they just don' climb all over my stuff and use my front flower bed as a litter box.

This place makes me realize just how far we have fallen over time. You people simply have no respect for other people. You think your cats have the right to do whatever they please where ever they please. May I inform you that the law says different?

The sad thing is you actually think you care about your cats but let them roam free which proves just the opposite.

You have some freaking bizarre beliefs that all cat owners are the same.

ummm my cats do not roam free. I have 5 and they all are 100% indoors.

I take care of a feral colony now which pretty much has eliminated them as being nuisances to everyone else. The house came with them and the school my property backs up to is part of the cause they congregated here....the cafeteria is adjacent.

About 50% of them are pets that people just keep outside.

I pay for spay / neuters. I also am the one that ends up burying them and others that I find killed/dead.

I'd seek help, your view in this is very sick.

If cats bother you so much just plant some anti-cat plants. Lavender works for both cats and deer and it smells good. There's also the scaredy cat plant that repels dogs, cats, and foxes. Cats also don't like the smell of oranges. I think lemons will work too but if you've ever bought that cat-off spray it's always orange.

BTW, the mothball idea above will probably kill a cat. Not recommended.

We have been catching and spaying feral cats. The shelter that is spaying them tattoos their ear and clips it. This lets animal control know they are wild. In thus county, animal control is required by law to release any feral cat it catches.

These aren't lions we're talking about here. They are house cats. What possible damage could they be doing to your property? Did they eat your mice or something?

I've never even heard of cats being illegal outside until the cat genocide guy mentioned it's the law where he lives.

No kidding. If it's illegal here it seems to be completely unenforced. If this guy called the police here they'd probably just laugh at him and warn him not to bother them with stupid nonsense like this again or they'd come down and arrest him for wasting their time.

When I was a kid, forcing your cat to stay indoors 100% of the time was simply unheard of. It's becoming more common today, yet you think the trend is going the other way. Wow.

Can someone find a link to this cat leash law? I am really curious what weird communities have passed such a law.

Cats keep vermin under control. Unless you're completely going to depend on birds of prey, snakes, and people to do it. I used to only have dogs until I moved to a new place and had rats, mice, gophers, moles, snakes (yes cats eat snakes too), 3 inch cockroaches, and giant spiders all over the place. Two cats had the vermin population in check quickly. Except the gophers. Those damn gophers.

So basically I planted different plants to keep foxes and deer away, I got cats for pests, and my dogs kept the skunks and rabbits/hares at a distance. The only thing that I had to be careful of were crazy people like the genocide guy above and large coons and possums since those could do some serious damage.

I'm trying to keep them indoors just to keep them from becoming coyote food... but raving lunatics like ronstang just make me even more convinced that this is a good idea.

It got into a cat fight yet you're keeping it? If it was a dog displaying such violent tendencies most people would have it euthanized.

Fixed that for you. :p

What am I ignorant of? If you witnessed the cat defending itself against a horde of feline felons you should have included that in the op. But instead you state that it has a desire to go out and get into fights. I'm going to laugh my ass off if it harms one of your other cats because of your bleeding heart stupidity.

We have a female cat, she is a rescue and we had her fixed, shots, etc. We've had her for about 7 years now. A few months ago this large gray male cat started hanging around our neighborhood. No collar on this cat but he appears to be well groomed, healthy, and very friendly. He is also fixed. Nobody seems to know who he belongs to though. At first we thought he might have been abandoned so we started feeding him and letting him into our house. He has been staying with us almost every night for the past 6 weeks and spending most days with us too.

We have talked with a number of neighbors to see if he belongs to anyone or if anyone knows who he belongs to and have had 1 lead that he might belong to someone on the street behind us. My wife went over there a couple times, knocked on the door, rang the bell and even left her card asking them to call us regarding their cat. She has done this twice. Nobody ever called us.

Well, about a week ago he got into a cat fight with one of the neighbor's cats (a few houses down) and he was injured on his left front leg. It wasn't broken but he was putting less and less weight on it so Saturday I took him to the vet and $400 later he is back with us with a shaved leg and antibiotics. They did find out that he has a chip but is not registered to anyone so we are going to register him to us.

We also have been keeping him in the house for the last few days to try and break him of this desire to go out and get into fights.

Now, I don't know if he belongs to someone but we haven't seen any lost animal signs up and all attempts at contacting the 1 lead we had have come up empty. However, if this person does show up and wants their cat back I'm kind of inclined to politely tell them to go fuck themselves. We love this cat, he's absolutely beautiful, affectionate, and we would like to give him a good home.

What would ATOT do? Besides make a thread about it or nuke from orbit of course.

To do something like take a injured cat off the streets and help it.. you sir are the right kind of awesome

That was pure speculation on my part. Fact is, I don't know that he started any fights. He hasn't fought with our cat but he does stalk her from time to time and he definitely wants to play with and/or do other nefarious things to her. He does want to go outside though. That is a fact.

This cat has been with us for almost 2 months now and he's not harmed our cat at all. We even left town Saturday and kept him locked inside with our cat alone overnight (with plenty of food and water) and we came home to two happy healthy cats who are closer now than they were before.

He's a young cat, maybe 2 years old at most. Very healthy and very much a male cat (although, he doesn't spray or mark thankfully because that I could not deal with). He's actually very playful and very sweet. The complete opposite of you really. :sneaky:

Are you suggesting that dogs that crap on your lawn should be euthanized and their owners fined?

Just checking.

Man I must come from a different planet than some of you guys. Life is way too short to hate animals so much.

i don't hate animals. i'm not a fan of bad owners though. i do think that owners should be fined if they don't pick up after their dogs. euthanized, no, i never said putting any pet down was good. if you read my original post i said adoption was my last resort.

as a rabid cat lover, i think that owners of dogs who shit in someone else's lawn should be fined. there was this old asshole who cut through my lawn when i was younger and it would shit all over our lawn. we tried talking to him but he had his walkman on and kept ignoring us until we called the cops. i remember when playing out in the yard it was always like walking in a minefield
