Question about statement dates

Say that on a cell phone statement, the period covered is January 1 - January 31. The invoice is dated February 5th. Is this considered the January bill or the February bill?

What if the the billing period is 15th of Januray through 15 February?

Any official verdict on this simple affair?

in what context does it matter what you call the bill?

the bill is for whatever period the billing cycle covers

The context here is for my own record keeping. I noticed a discrepancy in the naming convention that I use for my filing system of digitized statements. When I come across "Cingular 01.2005.PDF" I want to ensure that the contents reflect my usgae for the month of January, not the bill I recieved in January.

As such, before I went out and corrected the errors, I wanted to ensure that I was going by conventional standards.

if it is for your own records, just establish a precedence and stick to it

if it is a billing cycle that doesn't fall close to the calendar month (like your example), then just pick how you want it

good luck! i am a crappy record keeper, i pile all my statements/bills/stuff on a shelf and every couple years throw it all away and start over

Thanks again! I am largely paperless, so that's why I need my systems streamlined like this.
