Other than a scan using any number of problems is there some other foolproof way to determine, "yes, there is definitely some other thing running on your computer slowing things down"? Firefox is all of a sudden choking on the simplest things, even Youtube, and I'm on fibre-optic. What can I run to see if there's something going on on my system? I used to go to tomcoyote and they'd always get me running small applications to determine things but I remember any of them.

Thanks!

Not at all foolproof but...
- look under "Add-ons" in Firefox & go thru the list of extensions, plugins, etc. & see if there's something there you didn't install.
- assuming your running Windows, open the Task Manager & see what processes are running there. If you're not sure of a process name do a search for it & see if it belongs.

If it's just Firefox that's slow it could be something with your user profile.

Cool, I tried that. It may have been Hola Unblocker causing problems, lag.

Hola is corrupt, and can be considered malware.
Who didn't see a bad actor in the VPN market coming?

If you are using the free VPN service from Hola you really need to find a different solution. Not only has it been plagued with security vulnerabilities, some of which they have addressed and some of which even they admit still exist, you will also unwittingly be providing exit nodes and bandwidth for anonymous surfers. To add insult to injury, those users pay $20/GB to Hola for use of your bandwidth and you will never see a penny of that. Hola's ILuminati service allows you to surf the net anonymously by directing their traffic over anyone using the free VPN, or as they refer to it an unblocking service, so not only is your bandwidth being used, you have no idea what traffic is actually exiting through your VPN.

That is pretty much the exact opposite of a private network and depending on what is being done and how well the traffic is monitored you could well find yourself embroiled in an investigation you had no idea you were opening yourself up to.
