Question about speed of Routers

I am really confused about which Router to buy to share my cable connection. Linkys 4 port is on sale at CompUSA for $99.00 Netgear RT314 costs $149.00 and SMC Barricade is $129 at Comp. All seem to have similar features but the speed ratings differ somewhat. Netgear is rated as very fast, SMC is rated fast, and Linkys is rated relatively fast. The ratings came from various reviewers. Question is does this really make a difference that I would notice. Or are we talking little difference here. If no real difference I would go with the Linkys. But if the speed they refer to makes a huge difference I would go with the Netgear. Thanks in advance.

If this is for your homenetwork, any of the routers listed will be just fine. Have you run the cable tweaks to maximize your window page file size? That will make more of a difference for your downloading speed.

If you could actually see a difference between them on transfer rates, we need to you get a job at NASA. 😀

I would go with the Netgear or SMC before I went with the Linksys. Linksys routers have had some strange problems in the past concerning corrupted data. These problems have probably been resolved but I would still go with one of the other two. Price should not be the only deciding factor.
