Excuse my question, but I've been out of the loop on intel cpu's/mobo for some time now. I was thinking of pairing the mobo with the cpu below it. Would that be a good setup?

Before installing WinXP SP2, update to the latest motherboard bios.
Certain Prescott CPU's will BSOD, otherwise.
Or, install this update first:

If doing a fresh install using a "WinXP, streamlined with SP2" CD, then flash updating the bios from a floppy, or from a bootable CD, may be the only option.
