If both my sound card and motherboard have a spdif digital out. Would it matter which one I used? I'm thinking about selling my M-Audio Revolution 7.1.

Here's your fixed rig link http://www.anandtech.com/mysystemrig.aspx?rigid=22914

The digital outputs of a soundcard and motherboard should be pretty comparable. If you're only using digital out on the M-Audio and not the analog outputs on it, you would probably be pretty safe to just use the motherboard's digital.

Of course the best way to check this would be to actually try it. If you already have the motherboard then it should be pretty easy to check out how it sounds.

I think it would be hard for me to objectively compare the sound that way. I was thinking along the logic that it shouldn't matter do the digital out letting my receiver doing all the work.
