question about solar panel landscape lights.

I want to buy some spotlights to put in my front yard to highlight some of the plants I have.

If I buy the ones that has the solar panel, do they require 'direct' sunlight in order to get a charge? I mean, most of my plants are near the window(under the roof) and it doesn't get the sun directly.

I wonder if the solar panel will still be able to get a charge.

will a shaded area still work a bit?

For solar panels to work at 100% they need full sunlight. However they can work with partial shade. I dont know if they can work in complete shade.

You could get the type where the solar panel sits on the roof and a wire sends power down to the spotlight.

most will find the solar landscape lights needing new batteries yearly...unless you live with constant sun you will find yourself having some dark nights.

Doing a regular Malibu low-voltage setup is simple and cheap. If you have to go under a sidewalk you can use a narrow pipe and a hose to force a channel.
