Question about Smartmedia cards and audio

I have purchased around 8 smartmedia cards of various sizes to use with my Nomad II. I notice that sometimes the songs (mp3) will have "skips" or flaws in them. They repeat , so I know that they are part of the song. Is this common? Is this a flaw in the smartmedia card or some other problem in my pc or the data transfer? The falws are not on the songs on my hard drive. I ripped them from CD using either Music Match 7.0 or Creative Playcenter 2. Any thoughts or experiences with this, thanks.

I have the exact same setup as you. I have used my nomad II successfully with 32, 64, and 128 smartmedia cards. Sometimes I notice that a song will have a part of another song from the smartmedia card on it somehow, which is weird. Here is what I would recommend doing:

1)Make sure your nomad has the newest firmware loaded on it
2)Reformat your smartmedia cards and then put the music on them again
3)Use EAC and Lame to rip your songs in order to listen to them. Playcenter has really crappy programming, and rips songs so they sound like crap.

The nomad plays VBR MP3's just find also, so no worries there.

Which version of EAC would be best, there is a beta released on 3-6-02? Or should I use the one dated 6-27-01?

Sometimes it's caused by errors while transferring the file to your Nomad. Sometimes the data gets corrupted. I can also create this problem by pressing down on the SmartMedia reader on the back of the player. I don't use mine anymore because my volume control and remote is busted.

Thx, fr.

I hope this is not a recurring problem, I am worried that I invested too much money in this player if it is gonna keep giving me problems!!

this is just a suggestion, but don't you think you'd get more responses in a diff area, maybe even general hardware?
