Question about slocket adaptors.

My friend currently has a socket Celeron 300a oc'ed to 450mhz using a slocket adaptor in a VIA Slot1 MB. He has allready found that his MB has bios to support up to a PIII 933 or Celeron II 700 and wants to buy a new Celeron II. He asked if his current slocket adaptor will work for the new chip but I wasn't sure. Does anyone know the story here?

Thanks for any help.

The C300 up to the C533 uses a PPGA slocket. The C533a (CII) and higher use a FC-PGA slocket. It will depend on which one he purchased to begin with. I believe FC-PGA is backward compatible and supports PPGA processors. If it's an older PPGA slocket, he can buy a new one for around $15.00.
I would recomend the MSI 6905. hope this helps.

It depends on the slotket, just like Von Ribbentrop said. If he does have to buy a new one, the MSI MS-6905 Master Version 2 is the best from what I have heard. The exception is that it depends somewhat on the motherboard. I have heard that the Asus boards perform better with (take a wild guess here) the Asus S370DL.
