very dumb questions:

a) Does SLI only work with certain games/apps which support it?

b) Is it worth getting another 8800GTS G92 for EU170 right now to get SLI running.....or better wait til we get some new cards soon?

c) Would my toughpower 750W handle the additional card?

(my specs are Q6600 OC ~3600, 1.42Vcore, 4GB, all slightly overclocked and the Asus EN8800GTS is overclocked to EN8800GTS/TOP speeds, planning this also for the second one.) I had a 520W Corsair blown a while ago...but maybe this PSU was just a bad one.

Very sensible questions...

SLI is turned on thru the nV control panel and works with most games. How well the game scales is the greater question. And that's game and driver driven. Latest games with latest drivers are showing very good scaling right now, many over 80% on average. If SLI enabled it's wise to search SLI related forums prior to buying a new game to see how well it scales, but most any game will see some benefit.

EU170 is roughly $262 US which is a little high, but if that's the going price for the model you want than it is what it is. Whether or not to wait for newer cards, there's always that option, but along with it comes the requirement to sell your current card when they do arrive. People ponder this decision for months, but in the end, is there ever a perfect choice?

Your 750W Toughpower will be fine for SLI'd G92 GTS's. I ran a similar config with that psu.

You have a great card, and getting another would offer superb bang for the buck. With excellent thermals, power requirements, performance, and great driver support, this card in SLI is a very viable option. The biggest decision to ponder is wait for next gen single gpu or go SLI now. You'll get varying opinions regarding that decision (and probably will). ;)

Stopping short of making a recommendation, I know what I'd do...

I'm quite satisfied with the performance of my two g92 8800gts 512's in sli. Their performance seems to improve with each nvidia driver release and I'm currently using the 175.12 beta driver from nvidia. It seems to deliver the best performance of any of the drivers I've used since moving to sli.

As for how much it improves a game I keep the nvidia sli indicator on so I can view the scaling performance of whatever game I'm using. Some games use it more than others and so far crysis is the only one I play that has kept it near max all the time.

Ditto... very satisfied with what I'm seeing with current drivers!
