Question about sleep

When I go to bed, I don't feel tired at all, even if I go to bed at like 4 in the morning. Because of this I really need to relax heavily to fall asleep, and it usually takes 20 minutes or more to do. When I wake up, I feel groggy and don't feel like getting out of bed AT ALL, however once I actually get up and shower I'm wide awake and am ready to go without a nap until 4 in the morning the next night, at which point I still won't be tired.

Does this mean I have some type of sleeping problem? Or does my body just function perfectly fine with only 6 hours of sleep and I'm getting too much when I sleep 7-8?

I think your fine. On the weekdays i go to bed at 12-1 and get 6ish hours of sleep and its so hard to wake up. Weekend i got to bed around 4 and get 11-12+ hours of sleep and im fine no grogieness.

Your body can function on 6 hours but 8 is the prefered ammount.

im the same way, it takes me quite a while to fall asleep and i wake up groggy as hell (despite getting anywhere from 8 to 12+ hours of sleep)

20 minutes? That sounds nice. I'm usually 30-60 minutes before I get to sleep.

Do you have a regular sleep pattern, or do you go way off on the weekends? Keeping your body acclimated to a regular sleep cycle might help. As soon as you stay up several hours late, your body suddenly thinks, "Oh, ok, new schedule" and begins trying to adapt itself to that. Then come Sunday night it's all, "WTF, you're going to bed already? I thought you were going to bed 5 hours later than this!"

What you're experiencing is usually the result of a bad sleeping pattern. Make your times you go to bed more regular and you won't have this problem. My sleep patterns are incredibly erratic. During the week, I try to get to bed no later than midnight. During the weekend, it could be 1am or 4am.

However, I try to make up for it during the day with naps and the like...

It helps a ton if you develop a regular bedtime/wake time.

Unless you are like 60 years old, 6 hours is not normally healthy.

You are probably right it could be due to an irregular sleeping pattern. Seems impossible to regulate, though. During the week I could go to bed around 1, get up around 9. But weekends? I'm usually OUT until 2 or 3, then come back, make some food, listen to some tunes, get to bed around 4/4:30. I don't have to get up for anything Saturday/Sunday so I sleep till 1 or 2. That can't be changed really unless I just start coming home earlier.
