Question about signs I saw

I was driving through Oklahoma and Missouri yesterday, and saw that written on signs on the highway - no other explanations given 😕 - anyone on ATOT from that area and care to explain?

Just guessing here, but maybe it's because of brush fires. If there is smoke going across the road, they don't want you to drive through a potential brush fire and get hurt.

brush fires / range fires

people see the smoke across the highway and think it is just a whiff, then they plow into the 20 car pile up and make it a 21 car pileup

My dad drove through smoke from a brush fire when I was a kid, somewhere out west, we were on vacation, the smoke didnt bother me but my sister had to go to a hospital because her eyes and throat were burning 🙁 if only there were signs... or maybe its like Jeff Foxworthy says... theres yer sign

QFT, there is no way to know if the smoke is 10 feet thick or a mile thick, you get halfway through, lose the road, now you're fcked, stuck in a cloud of smoke, not a nice way to die.

I don't think that's Jeff Foxworthy.
