Question about setting $PATH on solaris boxes

Hello all, I'm currently working on a small java project. The computer i'm working on is running a very up to date version of SunOS. Here is my problem. The version of java installed in 1.2, but I need to use version 1.3 for my project. I sucessfully installed the java runtimes in my user area, but I have a small problem.

Java 1.2 is in the $PATH, which I cannot override, so I essentially have to run ~/java/bin/java every time I want to use java 1.3. Is there any way to override the $PATH setting in my config file, maybe with another $PATH, so all java programs try to use my version of java? Would setting a simple alias java = ~/java/bin/java work?

Setting alias is one way to go. But what do you mean saying you cannot change your path? Can't you edit your .profile file?
