Question about Seti Times

About how long does it take Y'all to get a good feel for how long a average WU should take - for example, when I first built my Athlon 1800 DDr, the first few WU's were in the 2:45-3:00 range (8-9 a day), but has since settled in to a speed around 3:45-4:00 (6-7 a day) which is close to the "predicted" time. On occasions, I'll get a "long" WU taking 5 hrs or so, which I attribute to Angle.
Reason I'm asking, just came up with enough "spare" parts for another box- Cheap Biostar KM133 board, 384 MB PC133 memory, Athlon 1700+ (140 fsb- reads as a 1800)- Loaded WinXP and Seti on it for the burn-in- First group was in 6 hrs, second group looks like about 5:40. Now, I expect a hit on memory & chipset, but not that much! Should I give a it a couple of days and see wht the times are like then (hoping that I just got a couple of low angle ones)?

Is this system overclocked? I don't see any situation where a non overclocked 1800+ should get sub 3hr WUs. Heck my overclocked 1800+ (11.5*137=1575) hasn't gotten one under 3hr yet in over 300 processed (average of 3:30).

It appears that you were previously using Windows 9x/ME which would explain the long WU times for certain WUs (those under 0.100 AR).

I'm not sure about that 1700+ system but the PC133 would affect performance. That 1800+ though should average around 3:45 as that is what I have seen from my non overclocked 1800+ (yeah I got 2 of them:)).

Baldy-
I've been running XP on both machines from day 1- the 1800 DDr is at stock (Gigabyte GA-7dx, courtesy AMD, ain't much for clocking)- the Biostar is (now) at 144 FSB for 1588 (reports as a 1900)

Suspect I just got a group of extremely "fast" WU's when I first started with the 1800 DDr- sure was exciting! I guess I really ain't that worried about it- just built the 2nd box because - a. I had the parts available. B Kinda wanting to build a integrated LAN "briefcase" setup. C would have went with a Nforce, but am too tight too spend 200+ bucks when I've got the parts to build a "poor boy" version of the same- just wasn't expecting that big of a difference!
May buy a cheap case- put this setup in it, sell it and buy my "dream" type setup

My overclocked XP 1800+@1575 is also running on a GA-7DX (also courtesy of AMD:)) with 512MB Crucial DDR. The fastest WU that system has done (other than one that was like 3mintues - have to love those fluke WUs) was 3:03:30 with an angle range of 7.387. I suspect that if your system was averaging that fast of times you must have had either several of those fluke WUs or one of them and not a large sample. the 3:45-4 sounds about right for that system but if you find out what caused the faster times be sure to let me know.:p

I haven't tried an XP with PC133 but I agree with you that the results are pretty dissapointing. May have something to do with the cheaper motherboard or older chipset but if it was all fromt he PC133 that sucks. Pretty good for a system that is just thrown together out of spare parts though.:)
