This is for the security pros,
I currently have a web server and an FTP server (both windows boxes) behind a D-Link DFL-200. Both servers have software firewalls on them. If I have needed ports routed to these servers through the d-link and nothing else open, could the software firewall be eliminated. These servers are on the same network as three other consumer level PC's all sharing one ISP connection. The reason I ask is I am running into trouble with the FTP listings being blocked on the outbound by the software firewall and even tweaking the fw is still giving me problems and I would like to elimnate the overhead if possible. The d-link is setup to only allow http traffic to the web server and ftp traffic to the ftp server so the ports aren't truely open.
