Question About SATA vs IDE For Gigabyte DS3L

I got the Gigabyte DS3L Motherboard and I was wondering if it would support a SATA dvd burner...I'm assuming so since it has SATA plugins as well as an IDE/PATA connection...I also already have a SATA hard drive so that would take up one SATA slot while if I got a dvd burner with SATA connection that would take up the other SATA slot?
Also is there a big difference between SATA and IDE for things like DVD burners? Thanks
 
I use both IDE and SATA DVD burners on the DS3L - no issues and I do not see any big difference between the two
 
the current available sata burners you might notice are a bit longer than the the old ones. that is because they are ide burners that simply have an sata interface added on so it takes up a bit more room. i have both an lg and a pioneer in 2 different boxes, both longer than ide burners. haven't taken either apart but what i've said above is what i've read about the current sata tech. otherwise, the only advantage i see to the sata burners currently available, is that they don't use up the 1 ide channel many boards are now sporting.
